THIS is just lovely...food frauds...just more evidence as to why we should be buying local or at trusted organic stores/sources.

Pink Slime

Makes me glad I stopped buying ground beef, but makes me wonder still about the ground turkey, I would think it would be the same process (anyone know?)...the video HERE is interesting alright.

Buckwheaties

I made my first batch of these this past summer & let them dry outside. I got a dehydrator for Christmas from my lovely mother so now I can make them in the winter too! They are mild-tasting so putting them with a banana is perfect. THIS article tells the health benefits (& shows a picture). Also, this is a great option to make raw granola with, or put in homemade energy bars, or whatever else you like to have 'crunch' in your diet. To pump up the nutrition, HERE is how to sprout them (this shows how to do it for wheatberries, but it's the same process), though I haven't done this yet...

VOC's & natural stains...

I'm painting some things & started looking into some natural paints/stains, etc...to see how they compare price-wise. Because my projects are small, I'm going to use them & I'm excited!! Particularly about Milk Paint (derived from milk proteins...a good use for them since they're not good for our tummies :) found HERE AND you don't have to sand or prime beforehand, which is why I wanted to use it in the first place. HERE is a site for more natural stains & the like...hopefully they're good ones because I'm going to buy one. Also HERE is an article about how to reduce VOC's in our homes (you know, without freaking out & going overboard about it).

Lunch Boxes

Just in case anyone looks at that this anymore besides me :) ... so we all know plastics with BPA are bad, but have you heard of stainless steel leeching too? I got one of those water bottles & my water tasted metallic, so gross. I also read something by Raymond Francis (Never Be Sick Again & CEO of Beyond Health) who says that toxins do leech into whatever the container is holding. I want a better option for my boys' lunch boxes & this website is so appealing...but are they right? Or is Raymond right? There are also these Bento boxes, but are there are other toxins we should be worried about in plastics besides BPA?

GABA Rice

HERE is an article on sprouting/germinating brown rice for its full potential. I'm considering making my own brown rice milk on a regular basis (SO much cheaper, besides the benefits, found HERE & HERE), but still looking into that one...I want to make sure enough calcium/protein/Vitamin D still make it into our diet (not that cow's milk does an awesome job of that anyway...).
